Information Blocking Is Here: A Deep Dive into the Practical Application of the ONC Rule After One Year, FAQs, and Unanswered Questions (On-Demand Webinar)

Date: 05/06/21
Time: On Demand

Difficulty: Intermediate

Overview: In this webinar AHLA’s Health IT Practice Group and a representative from ONC will build on previous programs and provide an advanced discussion on the more difficult challenges providers, health IT developers, and others in the health care industry are facing as a result of the ONC’s information blocking rule, initially published in May 2020. We will analyze the ONC’s current guidance and recent FAQs, identify still unanswered questions, and discuss potential approaches to these questions. In addition to wrestling with challenges actors are facing, we will also discuss opportunities the information blocking rule could present to providers and technology developers. The applicability date for information blocking is April 5, 2021, but actors under the rule are still figuring out how to approach different scenarios, including tackling especially thorny issues, like questions related to minors, sensitive lab reports (e.g. cancer diagnosis, Huntington’s disease, or other conditions that may be protected by state law), dealing with technology limitations in EHRs and patient portals, or activities that could turn a non-actor into an actor.
