Surprise Billing: New Federal Law, Same State-Specific Variation (On-Demand Webinar)

Time: On Demand

Difficulty: Intermediate

Overview: This webinar will introduce the recently issued interim final rules proposed to implement the ‘No Surprises Act,’ the statutory framework for federal surprise billing regulation that was enacted as part of the 2021 Consolidated Appropriations Act. We will address the interplay between the federal surprise billing laws and state-level surprise billing protections, using state laws from differing states as case studies. Through these case studies, the webinar will provide a framework for analysis of surprise billing issues to inform implementation of provider compliance strategies that are adapted to meet specific state law requirements while remaining consistent with the new federal surprise billing laws. Attendees will be given tools to identify and navigate misalignments between federal and state surprise billing laws to assist with provider risk assessment of potential compliance problem areas. After attending this webinar, attendees will have a better understanding of surprise billing laws and will be able to build a roadmap for provider adaptation to this increasingly complex area of regulation.
