A Framework for Innovation (On-Demand Webinar)
Overview: Health care has always sought to drive innovation and develop new approaches and new tools while assuring safety for both patients and caregivers. In working with emerging companies to jointly develop and use innovative solutions, both the health care organization (HCO) and the emerging company (EC) must grapple with assuring appropriate patient safety, regulatory compliance, and commitment and utilization of resources. There may also be difference in culture and approach to risk management as EC often rely upon nimble and agile approaches that may not be fully in sync with the HCO's internal processes and in many cases do not take account of the challenges experienced by HCOs as they seek to adopt newer technologies. This presentation discusses the creation of an innovation framework to facilitate communication about the collaborative effort, highlight key management decisions to be made, and set expectations for addressing legal, regulatory, compliance, and risk management issues. This will enable the attorneys to actively participate in the review of the proposed relationship, actively participate in the risk management discussions, and assure that appropriate documentation is created, thereby facilitating the joint efforts of the EC and HCO.
