Medicaid Provider Taxes in the Crosshairs: Lessons from the Texas Litigation (On-Demand Webinar)
Date: 05/14/25
Closed captions are available.
Overview: Medicaid provider taxes, usually a niche subject, have been in the news lately as Congress considers substantial budget reductions. Although some have gone so far as to call provider taxes "legalized money laundering," provider taxes are authorized by statute and have been strongly defended in several court cases, including one that is currently pending in Texas: Texas et al. v. Chiquita Brooks-LaSure et al. After a scathing preliminary injunction against CMS, the Texas judge is gearing up for summary judgment. In this 60-minute webinar, Todd Disher, author of an amicus brief in the Texas case, teams up with several interested parties to discuss the legal underpinnings of provider taxes and the current regulatory and legislative threats to this key method of Medicaid financing.
Learning Objectives:
- Learn about the statutory and regulatory framework underpinning Medicaid provider taxes.
- Discuss the financial impact of proposed changes to the provider tax statute and regulations.
- Learn about various attempts to change provider tax regulations, including several changes outlined in the recent final Medicaid Managed Care Rule.
