Overview: This two-part webinar explores the Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Act of 2005 (PSA). Part 1 will review key terms and definitions; emphasize the importance of a hospital's patient safety evaluation system (PSES) in maximizing the broad privilege protections under the PSA and in improving outcomes; and identify best practice steps in PSES policy development, including an example of a comprehensive policy. Speakers also provide important FAQs and answers regarding the use and disclosure of privileged patient safety work product (PSWP).
Learning Objectives:
- Understand how PSA's key terms affect policy development as well as how courts are interpreting these terms
- Learn how to take steps to improve and expand the scope of privileged activities through best practice reviews of their policies
- Answer key operational questions on how PSWP can and cannot be used within a hospital/health system
